DesaLIFE contributes to the Marine Renewables webinar under the Red BEAM project
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 28 OCT, 2026.
DesaLIFE contributed to the hybrid webinar “Marine Renewables”, organised within the framework of Red BEAM (Network of Test Sites of the Mid-Atlantic), coordinated by PLOCAN.
Red BEAM aims to strengthen scientific, technological and business capacities across Macaronesia and West Africa, with a particular focus on the blue economy. The webinar brought together experts, researchers and professionals to exchange knowledge and experience on the development of marine renewable energy technologies in Atlantic island regions.
The event was hosted by the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) at its School of Industrial and Civil Engineering and included contributions from our colleagues Dr Thomas B. Johannessen and Dr Ophélie Choupin, sharing knowledge and experience connected to DesaLIFE and the development and integration of marine renewable energy technologies, particularly wave energy.
Their participation also provided an opportunity to present DesaLIFE’s work on the use of wave energy to support offshore desalination, contributing a practical demonstration perspective to the wider discussion on marine renewable energy and its potential applications in island territories.
The event attracted 189 participants, including 60 women, with 22 attendees joining online.
