Ocean Oasis wins a 2026 Fundación Moeve Award for advancing a fair ecological transition with DesaLIFE

Madrid, 15 JUNE, 2026.

We are delighted to announce that Ocean Oasis has been named one of the winners of the 2026 Fundación Moeve Awards for DesaLIFE, recognising ithe potential to turn wave-powered desalination innovation into a real solution that contributes to accelerating a fair ecological transition.

The Fundación Moeve Awards recognise projects that turn innovative ideas into real solutions capable of contributing to a fair ecological transition. This third edition attracted 340 applications from Spain and Portugal, with ten initiatives selected as finalists.

Following the finalists’ presentations to the jury, DesaLIFE was selected as one of the three winning initiatives, alongside FORTALECE, from the University of Granada, and FRUTA FEIA CRL.

“For us, a fair ecological transition goes beyond reducing emissions. Water availability is essential to economic activity, local resilience and long-term development. With DesaLIFE, we are working to turn that vision into a real solution for the Canary Islands.”

Recognition of the potential of wave-powered desalination: from innovation to real-worl impact

DesaLIFE embodies the ambition behind the awards by bringing an innovative approach to freshwater production closer to real-world application through offshore desalination powered directly by wave energy. By operating independently from the electricity grid, the system brings together renewable energy and desalination in a solution designed to address two closely connected challenges: water security and the transition to clean energy.

In announcing the award, Fundación Moeve highlighted DesaLIFE as an innovative and scalable solution that uses wave energy to produce freshwater sustainably, with the potential to contribute to water security in water-stressed regions while respecting marine ecosystems.

For Ocean Oasis, this award is an important recognition of the work behind DesaLIFE and of the potential to generate tangible environmental and societal impact

of wave-powered offshore desalination technology to provide a sustainable and resilient source of freshwater.

It also reinforces one of the initiative’s key ambitions: to demonstrate a solution with the potential to be replicated and scaled in the Canary Islands and other island and coastal regions facing water scarcity.

For Ocean Oasis, this recognition provides additional momentum as we continue working to demonstrate and validate wave-powered offshore desalination and pave the way for its future deployment.

In addition to the financial award, the winning projects will receive mentoring and expert support from Fundación Moeve, aimed at helping them further develop and scale their impact.

We would like to thank Fundación Moeve for this recognition, and all the partners, organisations and people contributing to making DesaLIFE possible.

More information about the awards and the winning initiatives is available in the official Fundación Moeve announcement.
