GSIS 2026 – Global Sustainable Islands Summit
Gran Canaria, Spain | 20-22 April, 2026
Sebastián Feimblatt, CEO of Ocean Oasis, will take part as a speaker at the Global Sustainable Islands Summit 2026, organised by Island Innovation in collaboration with the Cabildo de Gran Canaria.
During his intervention, he will present DesaLIFE, our EU-funded and strategic project, and outline how this groundbreaking initiative can contribute to the long-term sustainability agenda and resilience of the Canary Islands. Besides, the presentation will highlight the project’s role of technological innovation in promoting sustainable water management models and supporting the blue economy in island regions.
The Summit will convene government representatives, policymakers, academics and industry professionals from islands worldwide to examine forward-thinking approaches to sustainable island development. Over the years, the event has become a key international forum for dialogue, collaboration, and concrete action towards more resilient island futures.
We look forward to contributing to this important conversation and sharing how wave-powered desalination can help build a more sustainable water future for islands worldwide.

European Ocean Days
The European Ocean Pact: Sustaining the ocean that sustains us
Brussels, March 2-6, 2026
DesaLIFE will attend the European Ocean Days 2026, which will take place in Brussels during the first week of March.
Organised by the European Commission, the European Ocean Days bring together a wide range of stakeholders—including policymakers, researchers, industry representatives, SMEs, investors, and civil society—to exchange perspectives, address emerging challenges, and support the implementation of the European Ocean Pact through innovation and collaboration.
At this edition, DesaLIFE will be represented by Tania Montoto, Marine Scientist and Project Manager for Innovation, Biodiversity, and Restoration at the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN), a project partner, with a particular focus on the 2nd Consultation on the European Ocean Research and Innovation Strategy.
DesaLIFE’s participation provides an opportunity to engage with European discussions on oceans, innovation, and sustainability, and to share project perspectives on desalination and blue economy solutions that contribute to a more efficient, resilient, and sustainable use of marine resources.

38th International Conference on Efficiency, Cost, Optimization, Simulation and Environmental Impact of Energy Systems – ECOS 2025 Conference

June 29 – July 4, 2025
DesaLIFE will attend the ECOS 2025 International Conference in Paris, with representation from members of the Renewable Energy Systems Research Group (GRRES) at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, partners in the DesaLIFE consortium.
During the conference, the project will be presented through a scientific poster showcasing the project and the wave‑powered desalination system developed within DesaLIFE, highlighting its contribution to sustainable and zero‑emission freshwater production.
The event will provide an opportunity to engage with the international research community and exchange knowledge on energy systems, sustainability, and innovative solutions for water and marine resources.

EU Green Week Webinar on Sustainable and Circular Desalination. Online. June 12th, 2025
En el marco de la EU Green Week, el proyecto DesaLIFE y sus socios se unen a expertos en desalación y líderes en innovación en renovables marinas para debatir sobre la descarbonización de la desalación en Canarias.
En este webinar, organizado en colaboración con EEN CANARIAS, exploramos cómo la energía marina puede transformar la desalación, reduciendo emisiones y fortaleciendo la resiliencia hídrica de nuestras islas.
Contamos con la participación del Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias, Ocean Oasis , la Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, y el proyecto Life Salteau, así como la presencia de la Asociación Española de Desalacióon y Reutilización (AEDyR) como invitado espacial.
DesaLIFE apuesta por una desalación limpia, sostenible y circular, adaptada al entorno insular.
